As we mark World Environment Day 2025, the Institute of Green Growth Solutions (IGGS) joins
millions around the globe in reflecting on the urgent and shared responsibility to protect and
restore our planet.
World Water Day, observed on March 22, highlights global water challenges. This year’s theme
emphasizes Glacier Preservation, as they are vital for Earth’s water balance and ecosystems.
Glaciers, covering 10% of land and storing 75% of freshwater, are under threat from climate
change and human activities, making their protection urgent.
Today, as we observe the International Day of Forests, we reaffirm our commitment to restoring degraded landscapes and promoting sustainable growth. The theme for 2025, "Forests and Food", highlights the critical role forests play in ensuring food security, sustaining livelihoods, and preserving environmental health.
World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, highlights the importance of freshwater
resources, with this year’s theme focusing on glacier preservation. Glaciers, found in polar
regions like Antarctica and the Arctic, as well as high-altitude mountains such as the Himalayas,
Andes, and Alps, are vital freshwater reservoirs. They supply water for drinking, agriculture, and
ecosystems, and regulate global climate.
